LAYERED OPTICS / IN DEVELOPMENT

Elyvris

Simulation and inverse design for layered optics.

I’m building a Python toolkit to calculate how light interacts with layered structures, then work back from a desired response. Inverse design is the next direction.

From a physical reference model towards inverse design.

Thin-film stack inputs A schematic incident beam reaches a stack of layers on a substrate. Some light reflects and some transmits. Wavelength, optical constants and layer thicknesses are the model inputs. incident lightreflected substratetransmittedd
Thin-film geometry: incident, reflected and transmitted light.
  1. 01

    Inputs

Layer thicknesses, optical constants, wavelength, angle and polarization. Tabulated n and k are interpolated within their supplied wavelength range.

  2. 02

    Calculate

The coherent multilayer model calculates reflection R, transmission T and absorption A.

  3. 03

    Validate

Analytical checks, regression tests and selected comparisons with a separate transfer-matrix calculation.

  4. 04

    Record

Save the spectrum and optional metadata; document changes, test results and limitations.

Model limits

Planar, isotropic, non-magnetic layers with a lossless incident medium. The substrate may be absorbing. Absorption in the finite layers is calculated as A = 1 − R − T. The checks cover selected cases and do not constitute experimental validation.
